Our Core Faculties: The Pillars of Our Institute

The strength of DIET Kottayam lies in its specialized faculties, each dedicated to a critical aspect of educational improvement. These departments work in synergy to provide comprehensive support to the entire district.

  • Pre-Service Teacher Education (PSTE)
The heart of our institution, the PSTE faculty is responsible for our flagship Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed.) program. This two-year course is meticulously designed to cultivate the next generation of elementary school teachers. We go beyond mere instruction, focusing on creating reflective practitioners who understand child psychology, pedagogical theory, and classroom management. Our curriculum features a robust blend of theoretical knowledge and extensive, supervised practical training in real school settings, ensuring our graduates are confident, competent, and ready to inspire young learners from day one.
  • District Resource Unit (DRU) for In-service Programs
The DRU is our dynamic outreach wing, dedicated to the continuous professional development of the thousands of teachers already working in our district’s schools. This faculty serves as the nerve center for identifying the training needs of teachers, headmasters, and other academic personnel. It designs and organizes a wide array of in-service courses, workshops, seminars, and subject-specific training modules throughout the year, ensuring our educators remain updated with the latest pedagogical trends, curriculum changes, and educational policies.
  • Curriculum Material Development and Evaluation (CMDE)
Effective teaching requires effective tools. The CMDE faculty is at the forefront of designing and developing high-quality, learner-centric teaching materials. This includes creating handbooks, modules, teaching aids, and assessment tools that are aligned with the state curriculum but are also tailored to the specific context of Kottayam’s schools. Furthermore, this department plays a crucial role in evaluating the effectiveness of existing materials and methodologies, ensuring a cycle of continuous improvement in what is taught and how it is learned.
  • Educational Technology (ET)
Embracing the digital transformation of education is no longer an option; it is a necessity. Our ET faculty is dedicated to integrating technology into every facet of the teaching-learning process. We manage state-of-the-art computer labs and smart classrooms, and we provide intensive training to both pre-service and in-service teachers on using ICT tools, digital content creation, and online learning platforms. In close collaboration with bodies like KITE, we ensure our district’s educators are proficient digital pedagogues.
  • Planning and Management (P&M)
The P&M faculty is the strategic brain of our institute. It is responsible for micro-level planning for educational development within the district. This involves collecting and analyzing educational data (forming the basis of our District Profile), preparing institutional and district-level plans, and monitoring the implementation of various government schemes and projects. This department ensures that all our efforts are data-driven, systematic, and aligned with the broader goals of state and national education policy.
  • In-service, Field Interaction & Innovation and Coordination (IFIC)
This multifaceted faculty ensures that our work remains grounded and relevant. Its core function is to build a strong, continuous bridge between our institute and the schools we serve. Through regular Field Interaction, our faculty members visit schools to provide on-site academic support and to understand grassroots-level challenges. This interaction fuels Innovation, as we work with teachers to develop creative solutions and novel teaching practices. The faculty also handles the crucial task of Coordination with various educational agencies and bodies to ensure seamless program delivery.
  • Work Education (WE)
The WE faculty champions the principle of learning by doing. It promotes the integration of skill-based, practical work and pre-vocational skills into the school curriculum, fostering respect for manual work and preparing students for life. This department organizes training for teachers on how to effectively transact the Work Education curriculum, covering areas from local crafts to modern skills, thereby making education more holistic and meaningful.
